Ruakaka is less than 30 minutes drive to Whangarei, 1.5 hours to the Bay of Islands and 1.5 hours north of Auckland city. Follow the blue Ruakaka bed signs off SH 1 (right when travelling North). Bream Bay Motel is easy to find, just 1km off State Highway 1. Ruakaka Beach is a 13km stretch of white sand and surf between river outlets.
